Rated 3 out of 5 by from Why change a product that was most excellent??? Just recently stocked up on the african black soap body wash at the local sprouts, noticed the label changed right away and just knew a formula change probably followed, and a very dissapointed one at that... why change the sea salt from dead to regular... and no more deionized water, and don't see the salicylic acid listed either...... this new formula took away the essentials and added more un naturals...why? I just might be jumping to another product, and after years of having such great things to say about this company Thomas Kestner

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I can finally wash my face with soap! I just bought this body soap and I'll NEVER buy another brand again! It even has tea tree oil to soothe my aching body! I used to never wash my face with soap because of the way my skin felt afterward (so I'm sure I stripped my skin of valuable oils, etc) but with this soap, my face feels soft and smoothe and didn't feel tight when I smiled. And just look at the ingredients!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My Favorite Wash Forever! This is a luscious and gentle soap, but, the most wonderful thing about it is the scent. It is warm and delicious, worth getting up early in the morning for.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible new formula What happened? Your African Black Soap was the greatest body wash ever but now that you changed the label and ingredients it's just not the same at all. It leaves my skin feeling sticky instead of soft. Please go back to the old recipe!

I have used the african black soap for years as my primary body wash to deal with my sensitive skin/psoriasis. My last purchase had a label changed along with the entire formula.. You've added way more ingredients (27) and much harsher chemicals. Why?

Asked by: Oregon Man
Hello Oregon Man, Thank you for reaching out to us. What has changed is our label… not the performance or benefit of the products themselves. We are in the process of updating our labels to be INCI (International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients) compliant which changes the ingredient list to items that may sound scary. In order to be considered for third party certifications and programs, for example being able to label our soaps Rainforest Alliance certified or RSPO certified, we have to comply with INCI. A byproduct of this change is the elimination of the origin and common names of our ingredients. A few examples, where we used to be able to label Tea Tree Oil as Tea Tree oil, we now list Melaleuca Alternifolia Leaf Oil. In the case of Sweet Birch Oil, INCI compliance requires Sweet Birch Oil be listed as Methyl Salicylate. I hope this answers your question. Sincerely, Taylor

Hi, I've purchased this product before and I LOVE it and swear by it. I've seen it sold recently in Whole Foods with a different packaging style (white label) and it appears to be a different formula. Has the product changed forever? Please say no!!!!

Asked by: Midnith
Hey Midnith. I just bought this (Black Soap body wash) like a week ago or so from my local Whole Foods. I have a black labeled bottle. I don't recall seeing the one you described with the white label. So while I can't answer the formula change answer...it is the black bottle...so you might ask the Whole Foods customer service local to where you are. They are pretty knowledgeable. And if they can't answer for you on the spot, they'll probably have a quicker response to a question like that as a large bulk purchaser of a product like this. By the way, I like the soap I got....I think I used it a long time ago, but forgot about it, but I really like it. I got on this site to see if I could use the soap on my face as they don't specify so on the packaging, but by the other answers given it seems as though it was formulated to do that as well. Hope you found this helpful.
