Rated 1 out of 5 by from SOMETHING FUNNY IS HAPPENING WITH THIS COMPANY This company must be undergoing a change. Whole Food will not carry this soap anymore, and they said it was a label dispute. However, as some of the reviewers noticed, the soap now includes ingredients that could be deemed unnatural or artificial, and is probably why WF will not stock it any longer. The same parent company also owns a line called Shea Moisture, and last I checked these ingredients were all natural. Why would they change the line that sells so well in the natural stores? Also, I found that this SPECIFIC soap has two variations. One has the questionable ingredients, the other without. Very weird...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty Great So I've been using this for the last 4 days and i gotta say it is pretty amazing. At first I didn't see immediate results, but after about 2 days of using it, I saw my blackheads disappear, it was crazy! Everyday my pores get smaller and smaller, it really works and it is inexpensive so you can't beat that! My only critique is that it didn't clear my acne or improve it at all. I have a pimple that has been on my face for the last 4 days and it hasn't helped it at all, it hasn't made it worse, but it hasn't improved it either although it claims to help with acne, so that's why I gave it 4 stars. Other than that, I highly recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I prefer this bar soap. It is a black soap - purplish in color. It does have specks of other colors in there. The soap lathers well. It'll activate better with water, meaning if it's not lathering, just add water. I can just wet my hand, run my wet hand over the soap bar, and clean my face. I can wet the washcloth, and the soap just a little, and not really have to drag the soap for a really long time to get a very nice lather going. It smells nice. I actually mean it smells very nice. I'll wrap this review up by saying that I prefer this brand of soap to the others.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Changed fragrance & so my co-op no longer carries I have the older bar of this soap I purchased 1-1.5 years ago and there is a stark contract from the bar soap I purchased this week - new fragrance from the new bar is gross, sweet. My local co-op stopped carrying this soap last year... and the person mentioned there were some changes to the product and they could not carry it based on their standards. There has got to be a fragrance change they are not telling us about since I have the old bar in a soap case and the new bar reeks of perfume. The Amazon website reviewers mention they notice a fragrance and formulation change in this bar of soap as well. The bar I purchased is nothing like what I purchased 1-1.5 years ago. Do not waste your money or time on the new bar.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Liked it I have very oily, acne prone skin but somehow while using it it makes my skin feel strangely 'dry' - that's not exactly the right word, but it makes it so I cannot use this bar to wash my face at the sink as my hands get "stuck" to the skin on my face. I've had this problem with other products before so I'm sure it more so a problem with my skin and not the product itself. But my skin stops feeling strange a short time after the shower and I haven't noticed it causing any additional acne , so that's wonderful! The bar smells and looks amazing though so it's a nice this to have on the soap tray in my bathroom even if I don't use it again.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Green and Red dye added on box but not on website I like the smell of this soap but I am concerned about the ingredients. It has Green 3 and Red 33.???? Why?? This didn't used to be listed as one of the ingredients and it's not on the website but it's on my box. What happening with your ingredients?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This Soap is Amazing! I have oily skin. This soap has helped tone down the oil so my face doesn't look like an oil slick by the end of the day. I've used it on my hair and as a body wash, too. I love this soap! I also love the smell. I've tried a few Nubian Heritage products and I've never been disappointed.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Very good lather, bad fragrance I really like the thick foam and silky lather that the soap produces, and I think it is helping my face skin, which tends to suffer from dry, red patches (dermatitis). However, I am not really a fan of the "natural" fragrance, which smells very artificial. The ingredients list "Natural fragrance and/or essential oil," but frankly I doubt there's much essential in it, and "natural" is one of those meaningless (when not misleading) terms that serious organic businesses should drop entirely.

Is there a new version of this soap that has replaced this one? If it is the new one has green & red dye & other junk in it. I'm extremely upset if this is true bc I loved this soap & I don't want to be paying $5 for a bar of soap that has junk in it.

Asked by: Chantal
Thank you so much for the response from WF workers. I've seen the difference in the quality and packaging. There are sites that sell the old formula

I see in your bar soaps many ingredient derivatives originating from palm oil, if not palm oil itself. Could you please inform us where you get this palm oil? Your products say ethically and sustainable, please assure your source of palm oil. thank you

Asked by: Matthew
Hi Matthew, The Palm Oil used in our soaps are sourced from a member of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil - trade group committed to sustainability in the supply chain of palm oil. No Orangutans or Orangutan habitats are harmed by our use of palm oil. Palm oil is also produced in West Africa where there are no Orangutan habitats.

Asked by: Maki1110
Hi Maki1110, Thank you for reaching out to us. We recommend doing a patch test prior to use to rule out any irritation or allergy. Natural fragrances are essential oils and isolates derived from botanical ingredients that are harvested from the earth such as: flowers, fruits, sap, seeds or skin of the plant. Nubian Heritage products do not contain Sulfates, Parabens, Phthalates, Paraffin, Gluten, Propylene Glycol, DEA, Silicones, Mineral Oil, Petroleum, Triclosan, Synthetic Fragrance or Artificial Color. Is there a specific ingredient you are allergic to so I can further assist you?

Did your packaging on the black soap change

Asked by: Daph
Hi Daph, Thank you for reaching out to us. We’re committed to celebrating the different cultures of our global community—the healers whose remedies inspire our recipes, the places where we find our ingredients, and the people who love our collections. Our new packaging pays homage to the diversity of healing traditions and cultures that are represented in the Nubian Heritage family. What has changed is our label… not the performance or benefit of the products themselves. We are in the process of updating our labels to be INCI (International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients) compliant which changes the ingredient list to items that may sound scary. In order to be considered for third party certifications and programs, for example being able to label our soaps Rainforest Alliance certified or RSPO certified, we have to comply with INCI. A byproduct of this change is the elimination of the origin and common names of our ingredients. A few examples, where we used to be able to label Tea Tree Oil as Tea Tree oil, we now list Melaleuca Alternifolia Leaf Oil. In the case of Sweet Birch Oil, INCI compliance requires Sweet Birch Oil be listed as Methyl Salicylate.
